Vintage Mexican Sterling Silver Butterfly Brooch: Venetian Glass Body, Pre-Eagle Mark

LARGE Vintage Mexican Silver Butterfly Brooch with Venetian Glass Body. The pink and green rose bud on light blue ground of a Venetian glass cabochon will catch your eye first, but this whole piece is a visual feast. Large wings defined by pierced work and engraving add a whimsical touch to this beautiful butterfly pin. The piece is stamped with an L in circle, surrounded by Mexico Silver. This absence of an eagle mark indicate the brooch was made before the Mexican government instituted the Eagle hallmark system in 1948. The pin has a roll over safety. In very good vintage condition, with lovely patina and slight bending, as seen in the antennae and slight waves in the wings.
ERA: Pre-Eagle Mark, 1940s
METAL/MATERIALS: 925 Sterling Silver (tested)
HALLMARKS/HISTORY: Stamped on the reverse: L in circle surrounded by Mexico Silver
CONDITION: In Very Good Vintage Condition, with slight bending (see antennae).
SIZE/MEASUREMENT: Brooch/Pendant measures 2 7/8 inch by 2 1/8 inch.
WEIGHT: 18.8 grams
