Retro Vintage 12K White Gold Filled Floating Opal Pendant on Sterling Silver Necklace 1940s. Chips of natural opal gemstones are suspended in glycerin inside a hand blown glass orb capped with a etched white gold filled bell cap. Each of the chips has lovely play of color and there is no discoloration to the liquid or stones. The pendant at the top of the cap is marked 1/20 12K and has the rhomboid mark with H of Horace Welch.
Welch was the creator and original patent holder for floating opal jewelry. The pendant has a jump ring and brand new 20" sterling silver rolo chain. The chain is marked Sterling on the spring ring.
In excellent vintage condition. The pendant has been pre-owned, but does not seem to have any damage.

My family has a heirloom floating opal necklace that we share, and it's my favorite necklace. However it came time to pass it on again and I wanted to replace it with a piece I could keep for my own. My item shipped fast and arrived today. While the markings check out and the opals are gorgeous with a lot of flash, the dimensions were incorrect! It's actually 1/2", not 1" as it was listed in the description. However, I don't really mind as the price was on discount and I like the dainty look of it. (Our family necklace is 1" and while easier to see from a distance it's quite heavy. This necklace is much more comfortable to wear!)
