World War II Era 10K Ruptured Duck Lapel Badge. This yellow pin is an Honorable Service Award given to WWII military members. Most personnel were given a cloth patch to sew onto the right side of their uniform upon return home from service. Some suggested it was helpful in letting police know they were not AWOL. Many WWII veterans later wore Ruptured Duck pins on their lapels. Typically, these pins are gold filled, so it is unusual to find one in solid 10K yellow gold.
And why a "Ruptured Duck" when the figure is an eagle. Supposedly, many felt the bird looked more like a duck and that the turned head reminded them of a doctor telling one to turn their head and cough for a hernia check. So, Ruptured Duck it became.
