Art Deco Pools of Light Dangle Earrings. These vintage earrings each feature a single undrilled 13.15 mm rock crystal sphere in a silver bezel band of grape vine, leaves, and grape clusters. This silver tests as 800, or slightly lower than sterling. Each sphere dangles from a length of curb chain below a screw back finding adorned with a single round faceted rock crystal set in five prongs.
Pools of Light jewelry was popularized during the flapper era of the 1930s and was part of the craze for Chinoiserie that flourished in the 1920s and 1930s. The spheres of rock crystal are left undrilled, allowing them to refract light in a manner that makes them appear to glow from within. And of course, items viewed through the beads are inverted.
