Vintage Carved Mexican Green Onyx Elephant Silver Brooch, Pre-Eagle Mark Carved Green Calcite Elephant Sterling Pin Mexico, Vintage Jewelry
This lucky elephant with trunk up is carved of dyed green calcite, which many mistakenly call Green Onyx or "Mexican Jade". The hand carved stone is set on a solid silver back with six prongs that wrap around to hold her tightly. Finished with a roll over safety clasp. This piece dates from the era before the eagle mark system was adopted, so pre-1948.
Stamped on reverse SILVER MADE IN MEXICO. Tests as sterling silver.
Weighs 16 grams.
In Very Good Vintage Condition, with a slight bend to the pin stem, and the wear and patina appropriate for its age. We have not attempted to clean the brooch in any way.
