While jewelry made from Morpho butterfly wings captured under glass are rather easy to find, knick knacks like these little pin dishes are a bit harder to find. These cute little pedestal bowls came from the same estate, but may have been collected at different times and locations. Each features real butterfly wings under concave glass set in a brass base.
The tropical scene dish features a reverse-painted beach scene with palm trees and is marked on the reverse Bermuda Hoffman. The blue, yellow, and tan dish is simply marked Hoffman. Both were made by Frederick S. Hoffman and Company, which manufactured butterfly wing jewelry and decorative objects in the USA from the 1920s through 1950s. We believe these two date from the 1940s.
Each dish has been adapted for use as a wall hanger. Each measures approximately 3 1/2" in diameter and stands approximately 1" tall.
In Very Good Vintage Condition, with no damage noted. The brass is discolored, and we recommend care in polishing, as butterfly wing ornaments should never be exposed to liquid or damp.
