Art Nouveau Silver Plique-a-Jour Enamel and Paste Antique Brooch. This smaller pin is a beautiful example of Jugendstil or Art Nouveau artistry with an Egyptian influence. Two lotus blossoms decorated with teal green and purple plique a jour enamel, as well as clear and red paste stones and a cultured pearl accent decorate this piece. All stones are bead set, aside from the red stone which is set in a milgrain-edged bezel and the pearl, which is set on a post. The small brooch measures 1 1/2" X 3/4", has a tube hinge for the pin stem and C clasp. Marked Sterl.S. and Rd 414707 on reverse. My research indicated this mark was used as part of the British Registered Designs Act of 1883 and dates this brooch to approximately 1902-1903. The brooch is in good antique condition, with some tarnish and slight yellowing to two of the clear yellow stones and some chipping to a few stones, most noticeably the one just to lower left of the pearl in the photo. The pearl was replaced about 25 years ago.
