Vintage Red Wedding Cake Venetian Glass Bead Necklace. Made by Venetian glassblowers, wedding cake beads earned that name due to their raised floral and swirl decorations that resemble the icing on wedding cakes. This necklace is made of red glass with applied bands of coppery aventurine and raised applied pink roses and swirls, as well as yellow and blue forget-me-nots. Forty-six round beads measuring approximately 11 mm in diameter are hand knotted on red cord and finished with a screw barrel clasp. The 22 inch long necklace is finished with a spring ring. In good vintage condition with beads in very good condition, but an odd "repair" to the stringing with two beads next to the clasp on one side fixed on a sterling pin that has been twisted to make a loop. Repair seems very secure, but you may wish to restring.
