Antique Ostby Barton 10K Opal Seed Pearl Ring. This beautiful ring features an east-west bezel set oval opal cabochon with beautiful green and blue play of color. The opal is accented with four small seed pearls, each set in four prongs. And the whole of the ring head has open work that creates an airy design. The shoulders of the ring are embossed with beautiful scrolls. The ring is in good vintage condition, with some minor scratches to the dome of the cabochon and a lovely patina to the gold. The ring is marked OB 10K with Maltese Cross for Ostby Barton.
ERA: Late Victorian, 1900s
METAL/MATERIAL: 10K Yellow Gold
STONES: One (1) Oval Cabochon Natural Opal weighing approximately .33 CT and Four (4) Natural Seed Pearls, each approximately 1.5 mm in diameter
HALLMARKS/HISTORY: Marked OB 10K with Maltese Cross for Ostby Barton. The firm was founded in 1879 and continued operation in Providence Rhode Island through the 1920s. Ostby Barton is well known not only for their high quality jewelry, but because one of the founders, Englebart Ostby perished in the crash of the Titanic.
CONDITION: Good Vintage Condition, with some minor scratches to the dome of the cabochon and a lovely patina to the gold. Previously owned and worn.
MEASUREMENTS: 9 mm wide at the head, with shank tapering to 2 mm at the reverse
