WWII Dutch Resistance Wilhelmina Pin. Dutch jewelry made with silver coins from the Second world War have a fascinating history! In 1941, the occupying German authorities in Holland attempted to seize all of the precious metals held in the Dutch mint, eventually even calling for all coins to be turned in by citizens. Some brave Dutch instead turned their coins into jewelry to be worn as a silent symbol of resistance. Each coin bears the likeness of Queen Wilhelmina, who was ruling from her exile in London. So wearing her likeness in the form of the forbidden coins was a way to assert patriotism, pride and defiance to the occupiers.
This pin features three 1939 Dutch dubbeltje (dime)coins atop a curved sten. The pin is finished with a wire C type clasp. In good vintage condition with no damage noted.
