Victorian Hairwork Watch Chain with 10K Gold Filled Fittings. This antique watch chain was made about 1860 - 1875 of woven human hair. Making jewelry and mementos from hair was popular in the Victorian era. Often, objects were made in mourning of a lost loved one and were fashioned from the hair of the departed. Jewelry was also woven from the hair of the artist herself as a type of betrothal gift. This cross is made of brown hair and is finished with fittings of 10K Gold Fill that are elegantly chased. The center tube fitting designed to hold a locket is engraved P.T.
This piece is in good condition, with some wear to the fittings, the dog clip loose, and minor "frizzes" to the hair work.
