Victorian 60 Inch Long Fancy Link Guard or Watch Chain of Pinchbeck with High Carat Gilding. This beautiful heavy muff or lorgnette chain dates from the late Georgian or early Victorian era. Chains like this were worn by women of the mid-19th century to hold a watch, lorgnettes, fur muffs, lockets, or other pendants. If used with a watch, the very long chain would have been worn wrapped around a belt or tucked into a waistband, with the watch dangling.
The chain is an astonishing 60" long and is approximately 4.7 mm in diameter. It weighs 71.8 grams and is finished with a dog clip swivel clasp marked L.B & Co. This chain is in Good Antique Condition, with one old solder (shown in the last image).
This chain will be beautiful doubled, wrapped and worn with your favorite locket, fob, or watch!
