Antique Edwardian Hand Carved Shell Cameo Brooch with 10K Rosy Yellow Gold Filigree Frame with Yellow Gold Leaves and Green Gold Flowers. The shell cameo is very beautifully hand carved, with nice detail to face, ornate hair with crown or tiara, and drape at shoulders. The cameo is carved from a conch shell and set in a plain bezel. The 10K filigree frame has milgrain edge detail and is accented with leaves and flowers at top and bottom of cameo. The piece is finished with safety typical of the period. The presence of a swivel bail makes it possible to wear this piece as a necklace pendant.
ERA: Edwardian, 1920s
METAL/MATERIAL: 10K Yellow Gold, Carved Shell Cameo
HALLMARKS/HISTORY: 10K on pendant bale and SF with arrow on pin clasp. This is the mark for Swift & Fisher of North Attleboro, Mass, which was in business at least as early as 1915.
SIZE/MEASUREMENTS: 15/16 inch x 1 3/8 inch.
WEIGHT: 6.7 grams
CONDITION: Very Good Vintage Condition, with minor age wear and patina appropriate to age. There are a few fine lines in the shell, but I have examined them carefully under magnification and none extend through the carving. The bezel is tight and pin and pendant mechanisms both function perfectly.
