Vintage Mexican 980 Silver Brooch: Green Calcite Taxco Pin

Vintage 980 Silver Taxco Mexico Green Calcite Marquise Brooch. This extremely long navette shaped brooch features a very large dyed green calcite cabochon bezel set with a simple rope twist border. The piece measures 3 1/2 inch long and 1 inch wide. Made in the 1950s, the pin is stamped on the reverse: 980 Taxco. The brooch has a pin with C clasp. In very good vintage condition, with the lovely patina often seen in higher silver content pieces that set them apart from sterling silver. There is evidence that the pin stem was a later addition and that there may have been another pin or pendant attachment originally.

STONE: Dyed Green Calcite, often called Green Onyx in Mexican Pieces
HALLMARKS/HISTORY: Stamped on the reverse: Taxco 980
CONDITION: In very good vintage condition, with the lovely patina often seen in higher silver content pieces that set them apart from sterling silver. There is evidence that the pin stem was a later addition and that there may have been another pin or pendant attachment originally.
SIZE/MEASUREMENT: Brooch measures 3 1/2 inch by 1 inch.
